Reflection

by Sister Dorothy Jean Beyer, OSB

This is one of my favorite scripture passages: “AND HOPE DOES NOT DISAPPOINT, BECAUSE THE LOVE OF GOD HAS BEEN POURED OUT INTO OUR HEARTS THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT WHO HAS BEEN GIVEN TO US.” Romans 5:5 As we enter this Third Week of Lent, let us be truly grateful that “God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.”

Gratitude can change everything. Let us be on the lookout for those little and big things in our lives that we take for granted. When we are grateful, our hearts sing! And so does the world!

What can I do to cultivate gratitude in my life? Take some time this week and reflect on: “For Christ, while we were still helpless, died at the appointed time for the ungodly. Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person, though perhaps for a good person one might even find courage to die.” Jesus died for us while we were sinners. How can I be more grateful to Jesus this Lent?

“And finally, never lose hope in God’s mercy.” Rule of Benedict:4:74

Gospel Acclamation:

“Lord, you are truly the Savior of the world;

give me living water, that I may never thirst again.”

John: 4:42, 15
